What is ASB?

The Cosumnes Oaks High School Associated Student Body (ASB) is the student organization for our campus. It represents the interests and goals of Cosumnes Oaks High School’s student body by representative government, similar to our own U.S. Government.

Students in ASB are the leaders and decision makers for our school. Students who run or apply for ASB do so because they know that a positive atmosphere during the school day where students feel wanted and accepted is critical to the school and our individual students’ success. To that end, the elected officers and appointed members of the ASB class focus on providing engaging activities that ensure a well-rounded high school experience. Students in ASB plan, organize, and participate in such activities as formal and informal dances, homecoming, prom, ball, spirit weeks, assemblies, rallies, student recognition events, student/teacher competitions, and parent lunch-ins. In addition, they oversee all the expenditures of ASB which includes athletic-and student-interest clubs.

What does the Student Store do?

ASB runs a student store for the benefit of our students. The Student Store is open daily from 10:30 a.m. — 2:00 p.m. on regular school days. The Student Store is our school’s centralized location for purchases including: PE gear, spirit wear, dance tickets, ASB-sponsored events, theatre performance tickets, field trips, spirit packs, and more! The store accepts checks, cash, and credit cards (credit cards are not accepted for district items such as test fees or graduation tickets). The store will accept cash and money orders only as of April 1. A credit card MUST be in the name of the person presenting it. Students may not use their parents’ card. In addition, the controller’s window is open each day after school for payments. The controller’s window is located adjacent to the attendance windows in the back of the main office.

Why do I get an ASB card?
Every school year during registration, students are required to get a photo ID card. They will use this ID card for checking out textbooks and verifying who they are throughout the school year. This ID card also allows them to attend COHS events at the full admission price and is required to gain admission and participate at any school event including events on campus.

When students purchase an ASB card, they are actually getting a special "ASB" sticker on the ID card instead of a stand-alone card. When they attend a COHS athletic event (except playoffs), say a football game, they simply show their ASB card to the ticket takers at the event and gain admission for free.

There is also a discount on ASB tickets and events, including guest tickets for dances.

What are the requirements to be in an ASB leadership role?

ASB members must be leaders. The qualities of a good leader include honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, reliability, willingness to work hard, humility, respect for both adults and fellow students, and school pride. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA, be in good academic standing, and maintain high academic and personal standards, both on and off campus.

To find out about ASB’s roles and functions, getting into ASB, or getting involved at Cosumnes Oaks High School, ask someone who is in ASB or ask Mr. Mason. Feel free to come by the Activities Room adjacent to the MP Room during lunch to ask as well.

Applications are usually released for appointed or elected positions the first week of January and due two weeks later. If you are interested in joining, be on the lookout for these!
